ABOUT GORDON SETTER
BEHAVIOUR
The Scottish setter or the Gordon setter is extremely receptive and excited to learn with an excellent memory. A saying about the Gordon setters is interesting – they themselves do not have for dogs. Their uniqueness with wrong education can lead into disobedience. Consistency with high motivation is needed in dogs’ education.
The Gordon setter is not only an intelligent working dog but also a good guard dog.
It is a family dog, serious, reliable and loyal to the master. It poses a good character, always ready to play and it just loves company of kids.
DOG CARE
The Gordon setter has typical smoky black coat colour, fine like silk. It deserves daily grooming: combing and brushing, especially after walking outside in wild nature.
We cut hair only between the toes and on the inner sides of the ears to prevent irritation.
It needs a regular care of ears.
HEALTH
It is a relatively healthy dog. Among most frequent disabilities is hip dysplasia. Like other big dogs can suffer stomach twist.
LIFE ENVIRONMENT
The Gordon setters are hunting dogs with lots of energy. They deserve a lot of walking, but they adopt living in a flat very easily. They praise the time the owner dedicates them.
GORDON SETTER AS A FAMILY MEMBER
The Gordon setters have strong bonds with the master. They even can get ill if the master is away for a longer period. He feels great in a family and uses several techniques to communicate with family members. Its voice is similar to yodelling. Its behaviour makes us laugh many times and keeps good spirits.
It is friendly with other dogs. It can put itself forward, but mainly by roaring.
The setters’ owners use a saying: Once a setter, always a setter.
